After a fabulous first fifty days since opening, I just had to send out a HUGE THANK YOU for the very warm welcome the team and I have received from the local community. We have been delighted to be able to help our customers find just what they need in amounts from very small (such as just 4 cardamom pods) to very large (20kg of dog food!).
Along with our neighbours at Greenwood Village Shopping Centre, we have all you need for a regular weekly shop. Santo at The Fresh Produce Co even has loose tomatoes so you can avoid the punnets and the team at Shanks Butchers are happy to put your meat purchases into your own clean container. Pop your unsliced bread from Bakers Delight in your own bag and they have paper bags as an alternative to plastic. As an added bonus, the centre has plenty of easy parking, is close to the freeway and is owned locally by WA families. The centre also has a lovely café (who keep me well supplied with coffee and yummy lunches), a Lucky Charm newsagent, Terry White pharmacy, awesome gift store, jewellers, nail salon, hairdresser, barber, a great little local post office along with a major supermarket store. (And that’s just on the inside – around the outside there is a laundromat, Liquor Barons, Greenwood Pizza, Chinese restaurant, Japanese restaurant, vet and Jett’s fitness).
As the team and I travel on our journey toward zero waste living it has been really rewarding to share what we have learnt (so far) and inspiring to have so many of you share your stories, tips and tricks with us.
We have had a LOT of items added to our Wish List and have been able to expand our range to grant some of these wishes! We now have vegan chocolate, amaranth, garlic granules, beeswax and clove bud oil to name just a few.
My first attempt at making Christmas cake (using the old-fashioned recipe we have in store) was a success. If I can do it, anyone can 🙂! Come in to get glace cherries (red and green), apricots and pineapple and all the dried fruits you are likely to need ready for you to make your own.
I have also been glad to support some of our local schools with their sustainability and fundraising events. Thank you to Lansdale Primary, West Coast Steiner school, St Stephen’s and Halidon Primary for inviting us to get involved.
We have collected over 40kg of batteries for recycling and several boxes of beauty products for Terracycle that may otherwise have gone to landfill and I if I had to guess, the number of jars generously donated for washing and reuse by our customers would be in the hundreds!
So, thank you so much and we look forward to helping you restock your pantries – without the plastic waste and in just the quantities that you need – long into the future.
In the meantime, we look forward to helping with food and gifts for a merry and low waste Christmas.
